Cleft Lip – Part 2 Post Birth

Once we got home we had to get wee man no.2 weighed every week for 6wks and Jenny would call us every week to get an update… He was able to use standard bottles when we got home which was good as I had ended up with about 10 (planned ahead for expressing knowing I had struggled with breastfeeding wee man no1)! At 5wks old we got our first smile from him, and what a smile it was! It was a huge wide grin and the picture we got remains one of my favourites of him.  At 6wks we visited

Cleft Lip – Part 1 Pregnancy & Birth

So January 2012 I found out I was pregnant with baby number 2…. We confirmed dates with the Dr and then told close family.  A couple of weeks later I had the house to myself so decided on a mid afternoon bubble bath.  While it was running I sat at the computer when I felt a gush. Only being around 7wks gone I knew it had to be blood so took myself off to the bathroom whilst phoning the OH at work.  Phoned the hospital who got me to come in and see the consultant.  On the way to hospital

Colic & Reflux

Let the sick commence!! At the end of May 2014, we were blessed with a little man we call the Bear – also known as Monkey, Nut-job and oh Charlie.  He was perfect in every way, pink and wrinkly with big eyes and a tongue that seemed to stick out all the time (and it still does).  We brought him home and I genuinely felt the most amazing wave of emotion I have ever felt – true, unconditional, unbreakable, love.  After about 2 weeks of feeding, sleeping and changing we had started to get into a little routine and then…..well

Breastfeeding with Gnashers

Breastfeeding doesn’t come naturally to everyone and it can be hard work sometimes, especially in the early days. So what about when you also have to contend with teeth…. Now the average age that teeth start to appear is around six months but we don’t all fit into the ‘average’ category now do we? Even if this was the case, many dedicated breastfeeding mums continue way past six months so teeth must be an issue for lots of mums. With my first child I exclusively breastfed for six months and her teeth started appearing just as our breastfeeding journey was

The Power of women, my first birth

The energy in the room was incredible, electric yet peaceful. Time had slowed down, like the world had to stand still to allow another life into it. I looked at this new life’s mother, power surging through her, I have never seen strength like this, primal strength, the strength a lioness has for her cubs. There was a softness too her. Then there was life. I had always wondered what my first birth as a doula would feel like. If I truly was made for this? My one and only goal was to always ensure the mother new I believed

“Ooh I would love to be a Doula”

So I explain what a Doula is……. When people ask me what I do for a living I say I am an ante natal teacher and doula, this is followed by either knowing nods of ‘yes i know about them – Doulas – my sister/friend/acquaintance had one’ – or I am given a  puzzled look as although they know what an ante natal teacher is – the word doula is somewhat more intriguing. So I explain what a Doula is – well I tend to say a childbirth companion and people tend to to then go ‘arh ok’ they mainly

‘Yes Day’ – The verdict!

So it was a bit nerve wracking this morning, waiting to see how the day might unfold! But exciting too!……. For those that have not read the last post, today was about saying YES to all our childrens requests! In all the day went well and I would definitely do it again, it was fab just to cease everything and focus solely on them. But I was not perfect despite trying to be! The day started with a ‘Can I have a biscuit for breakfast?’ they ask this every morning and obviously we say no, but today we said yes! Their

YES DAY!

Hi All! Long time no blog! So sorry, I promise to be better. It is quite hard this blogging malarkey, you wonder if anyone is really interested in what I have to say? Plus the time it takes. We run our business ourselves, with the little folk about, so usually we are lucky if we get 2 hours in the morning whilst they are at preschool and the time from their bedtime to our bedtime, so to say we are flat out, is a HUGE understatement! So what has sparked this sudden decision to write something? Well, exactly the above. We

Christmas Madness

Ok, so I am new to this whole parenting game when it comes to Christmas! Yes I have a two and a half year old and a ten month old, but this is really the first Christmas that my first born is aware. Her first Christmas she was just 6 months old and last Christmas 18 months, so although excited about it a year ago, it was an excited on the day event. But this is unbelievable! Understanding that time cannot be understood by young kids, I decided not to tell her anything about Christmas until close to the event.
